Klinasto ruho

A good friend of mine asked me to help her figuring out a clothing pattern with a wedge-shape she found at a historical clothing exhibition a long time ago in Croatia. This shape to create volume in garments was to be specific to this area. It had been her wish to make this garment for herself in linen.

We both have family ties to former yugoslavia and both live in Danmark now. It was amazing to connect in our interest for traditional clothing, especially from former Yugoslavia. She also found this ‘wedge-shape‘ in traditional danish clothing, a funny fact we couldn’t help but take as a sign that it was time for the next step in recreating this garment.

I offered to test the pattern (the dimensions and proportion) with my measurements.

Side note : The pattern is a zero-waste pattern. A way of designing that does justice to the effort and material that goes into constructing fabric/cloth. It’s a way to minimize the impact on the environment. The whole garment, all pieces, come out of a square aka one piece of cloth.
